You may have heard the news that Hostess, legendary purveyor of sugary, cream-filled baked goods, is going out of business. In fact, you may have already missed your chance to scoop up the last Twinkies, Ding Dongs, Snoballs, Ho Hos, and Cupcakes off grocery store shelves. I haven’t ventured outside yet today, but I’m imagining a post-apocalyptic scene, like a zombie movie but with sponge cake.

Never fear! You can make delicious Hostess-esque products in your very own kitchen. We’ve done the work of tracking down some choice recipes, so grab your electric mixer and pastry bag, call some hungry pals, and have yourself a Hostess Farewell Party. RIP, good friend.

Warm up with these absurdly delicious looking Homemade Hostess Cupcakes from the Novice Chef Blog.

Your second course will be these delectable Homemade Ding Dongs from A Cozy Kitchen. (These were my favorite when I was a kid!)

You’re nearly halfway home. The next stop on this cakey tour is a visit to the mother of all shelf life-defying treats. You know it. You love it. Now it’s time to make your very own homemade Twinkie. Use any of the recipes from the Instructables Homemade Twinkie Challenge (including vegan and gluten-free options).

Now you’re ready for Advanced Hostessing. See if you can master the rolling technique required for these Homemade Ho Hos from The Family Kitchen.

For the pièce de résistance, I recommend picking up a copy of Babycakes Covers the Classics and flipping to page 80 where they’re hiding their amazingly wonderful gluten-free Sno Balls recipe. Sooooo good.
