Our latest project: Forging New Family Traditions

Today we launched our newest guide, The Non-Traditionalist's Guide to Forging New Family Traditions. The Guide is 100% free and is chock full of funny, poignant, and delightful stories of crazy family traditions told to us by you—members of the Everybody's Invited community.

We hope you'll get as much of a kick out of the stories in the Guide as we do. They proved to us that family traditions don't need to be boring, staid, or even particularly dignified. They just have to bring people together, provide something to look forward to, and create vivid memories.

Please check out the Guide and share it with someone you think will love it.

Let's go outside! Introducing #ThePicnicSociety

Spring is here! It looks like our friends on the east coast are finally going to get a reprieve from the cold weather and snowstorms. To celebrate one of our four favorite seasons, we’re launching The Picnic Society, a community of people who share a love of outdoor dining.

At the heart of the Everybody’s Invited philosophy is a strong belief in the value of bringing people together to break bread, to laugh, and to temporarily escape the sometimes harsh realities of daily life. And nothing brings people together like a picnic. All you need is an old blanket, a cool spot in the shade, some tasty nibbles that travel well, and of course, some good friends.

The Picnic Society is simple. To join, just read the Al Fresco Manifesto and pledge to organize at least one picnic this year. That’s it! We’ll email you with a new picnic concept every month from April through August, and, best of all, if you sign up during the month of April, you’ll be automatically entered to win a picnic basket loaded with goodies.

Getting married? You may want to Scrum Your Wedding!

Getting married? You may want to Scrum Your Wedding!

I am thrilled to announce the launch of the Scrum Your Wedding Guide, a free resource for couples planning DIY-style weddings.

Last year my uber-talented friend Julia and I set out to prove that it’s possible to plan a wedding without stress, even a highly creative and elaborate wedding with lots of personal touches. We’re both big believers in the “Scrum” process (Scrum is a popular methodology used in software development), and we wanted to use it as a framework for stress-free wedding planning.

If you or someone you love is planning a wedding, this free Guide can help you save money, time, and your sanity.

It’s not a wedding planning guide—there are no wedding dress image galleries, calligraphy tutorials, or flower arrangement tips. Those things are readily available on the Internet, and we know you know how to find them.

Instead this Guide lays out a simple process for:

  • establishing wedding planning roles (knowing who's in charge of what can keep your relationships with family, friends, and your partner in tact)
  • creating tools to visualize your progress (seeing how much you've accomplished keeps you motivated and excited for your big day)
  • setting up some "rituals" (putting a series of wedding planning meetings on your calendar ensures you stay on top of all the details, and, more importantly, allows you to have a life outside of wedding planning)

Who is Scrum Your Wedding for?

SYW is for you and your partner if:

  • you're planning a wedding with lots of DIY touches
  • you want your wedding to reflect who you are (not in a douchey way like this fake couple), but you're worried that the stress of planning might get to you
  • you know nothing is worth the stress of fighting with each other, feeling resentful toward your friends and family, or going bonkers over your budget
  • you nerd out about organizing and planning (or if that describes just one of you—the SYW Roles make it perfect for couples who "shine" in different ways)
  • you also have other priorities that you need to attend to—you can't just drop everything else in your life!

Win Free Coaching

The entire Guide is available for free at ScrumYourWedding.com. To celebrate the launch, we’re offering free Scrum Your Wedding coaching to one lucky couple.

The winning pair will receive up to five one-hour consulting sessions with Julia and me. We’ll walk through the steps of “installing” Scrum for your particular situation, and help guide you every step of the way, so you have the smoothest possible wedding planning experience.

(In case you’re wondering about credentials, I’m a certified Scrum Master—that’s a real thing—and I’m so very excited to combine my love of project management with my love of rad weddings.)

Enter to win the free coaching sessions by midnight ET on February 15th

Win a S’more Gift Pack to Celebrate Our New Book

We wrote a book! We are so excited to announce that S’more to Love: A S’moregasbord of Mouthwatering ‘Mallow Innovations, a cookbook packed with 24 original s’more recipes, is now available as an eBook.

For the past three years, we've been laboriously creating and testing s'more recipes and painstakingly tracking our findings. Seriously, it's been a real pain, guys.

Just kidding! It's been a ball experimenting with our friends around the campfire, and we couldn't be prouder of the results. From the tangy surprise of the Au Currant to the dulce de leche-laden Alfa-smoré, S’more to Love has a s’more for every palate.

Also included in the book are tried-and-true tips for hosting a s’more party, advice on how to roast a marshmallow like a pro, information on where to source specialty ingredients, and suggested “menus” of complementary recipes.

Purchase the book as a digital download for only $5, and you’ll be automatically entered in our contest to win a s’more gift pack.

Contest:

To celebrate our book release, we’re holding a contest this week, from October 13 through October 17.

Purchase the eBook and you’ll automatically be given one entry in the drawing. Share this post on Facebook or tweet about our cookbook with hashtag #EverybodyLovesSmores, and you’ll get a second entry. Enter up to three times to increase your chance to win!

The prize is a s’more gift pack with all of the ingredients to indulge in the “Make It Snappy” s’more (one of our favorites!). One winner will be chosen at random on October 18 and contacted via email, Twitter, or Facebook. Winner must live in the U.S.

Special thanks to our family and friends who have supported us (and eaten A LOT of s’mores) during our cookbook-writing journey. We love you s’more than you know!

See you around the campfire!
